School Council

Meet our School Councillors for 2024-2025

Process to becoming a Councillor:

Children that wanted to be a school councillor completed an application form answering questions linked to why they wanted to be a representative and what they could do to improve our school. They took this home and shared it with their adults for further support. These forms were then short listed and children were chosen to represent their classes for the academic year ahead.

We have 2 representatives from Year 2

2 representatives from Year 3

2 representatives from Year 4

2 representatives from Year 5

2 representatives from Year 6

2 representatives from Year 6 that represent and support Year 1, Reception and Nursery.

All of these School Councillors are above! What a great team they make.

What do we do?

We meet every Wednesday with Miss Teague. We all have a special School Council notebook where we write ideas, thoughts and actions. Part of being on the School Council is taking responsibility for this book, attending meetings weekly and completing key tasks from meetings. These might be individual tasks or tasks involving each class. We agreed as a council that making meeting minutes were important. In September we went through what minutes were and the impact these had and everyone had a go at taking them.

Our Plans:

Firstly we had a discussion about our school. We made a list of its strengths and areas we wanted to improve.

Then each councillor went back to their classes and asked them some key questions we had thought of, we fed this back to the rest of the council.

We then categorised and looked at what we thought was possible and not possible and thought about why.

We then voted for the key areas we are willing to work, are viable and will make our school a better place for all.

Finally we are working on an action plan to make 4 key ideas come to life and believe this year we can make them happen.

Next Steps:

We are finalising this action plan and then will be sharing it with key stakeholders including Mrs Ankers to ask for support in making it come to fruition. We have made sure we have thought of everything in the planning stage.
