St Teresa's Catholic Primary School and Nursery 3-11

from smallest to greatest

Music

Our pupils learn that music is a universal language; a powerful and unique form of communication that transcends different cultures and embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. Pupils are inspired and engaged by the music education they receive. We strive to create the very best musicians, challenging students to think, act and speak like those working in the field. We do this through quality first teaching which challenges our students to not only excel in basic musical skills, but to also understand different styles and genres of music, requiring them to explore, discuss and demonstrate this understanding in creative ways.

Music lessons engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music making and develop their talent as musicians, in turn increasing their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. As pupils progress, they develop a critical engagement with music, allowing them to compose, and to listen with discrimination. Our bespoke Scheme of Work is used from Nursery to Year 6, encompassing wide exposure to different genres of music while ensuring high quality, regular, practical music making opportunities. To broaden our musical offer, fully inclusive, instrumental tuition is offered as part of the weekly Music lesson in both Years 1 and 2; KS2 pupils are provided with regular performance opportunities within the local community and in varying ensembles.
