St Teresa's Catholic Primary School and Nursery 3-11
from smallest to greatest
History at St Teresa's:
History at St Teresa’s will…inspire pupils’ curiosity so they can think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments and develop perspective and judgement.
History will help children understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their own times.
We want children to understand the key skills taught throughout each year group and understand what it means to be a historian, after all, we wouldn’t be here now without it!
We follow the United Learning Curriculum to teach History. As a school we have made tweaks to make it pertinent and fit for our school, community and children's Historical Learning.
History in the Early Years:
During EYFS children develop their understanding of the physical world and community in which they live. They use everyday language related to time. They order and sequence familiar events and sequence pictures in time order. Children talk about past and present events in their own lives and in the lives of family members. They will start to identify simple similarities and differences. Children will listen to and recall simple historical stories and explain their own knowledge and understanding and asks appropriate questions.
