Zoo Trip
6th July 2015
Reception children had a wonderful day out at Blackpool Zoo - despite the rain!
We enjoyed the "Creepy Crawlies show" where the children were excited to handle some of the insects, including a large cockroach, a giant land snail and large millipede.

Reuse, Repair, Reduce and Recycle
Reception children have been learning all about materials and how important it is to recycle them. A parent of one of the children, Mat Turner, came into school to talk to the children all about the recycling plant where he works. The children were very excited and keen to learn about how they could help to save our world. They were particularly eager to try on the different protective items of clothing that Mat had brought in. The children were fascinated at how we can use materials to make new things – the girls were particularly impressed with the purse made out of recycled yoghurt pots!
World Book Day
Thursday 5th March 2015
On Thursday Reception class took part in World Book Day celebrations. They came to school dressed as their favourite book character and looked fabulous!
Dinosaur World Trip
On Friday 27th February Reception children went to Dinosaur World in Blackpool. They had a fantastic time looking at models of dinosaurs and learning interesting facts about them. They dug for fossils and had a go at making their own to bring back to school. The children had an opportunity to play in the dinosaur play pit; making up their own dinosaur stories and made play dough dinosaurs to take home. At the end of the visit the children were awarded a certificate for being “A Star Dinosaur Student” and took home a goody bag, full of dinosaur treats! A wonderful day out for the children with some lasting memories.
Look at some of our photographs below.
Fun Friday
On Friday 23rd January, Reception children were joined by either their mum, dad, grandparent or auntie for a fun Friday morning.
They worked together to make a landscape for the clay dinosaur the children had made earlier on in the week.
Lots of cutting, gluing and sticking later, the classroom was full of wonderful creations; fit for any backdrop for Jurassic Park! – Spielberg would be proud!
Relatives had as much fun – if not more – than the children and the session ended with well-deserved refreshments served by the PTFA.
Thrilling Thursday
What a fantastic morning we had in Reception on Thursday 13th November! Parents were invited into school to carry out an activity alongside their child. The activity was based on the story “Leaf Man” and involved creating a leaf man or animal together out of leaves and twigs. Together they created the most wonderful pictures.
The session ended with parents/grandparents and children enjoying refreshments in the classroom.
Remembrance Day
On November 11th the children in school marked Remembrance Day by making poppies and "planted" them outside the entrance to school.
Reception children took part in a short class worship session, followed by one minute silence before planting their poppies.
