Zoo Trip

Thursday 14th July 2016

On Thursday 14th July, the sun shone on us and we had a fantastic day out at Blackpool Zoo. We saw all sorts of different animals, from cheeky monkeys and amazing sea lions to mischievous lemurs! We also took part in an "Explore and Discover" workshop, where we had the opportunity to learn about different animals and insects, such as stick insects, huge Madagascar cockroaches and bearded dragons. Some of us were even brave enough to hold them!

Take a look at some of  our pictures below.

Minibeast Hunt

Wednesday 15th June 2016

Sycamore class had a fantastic morning on Wednesday. The sun shone and we were able to go on a minibeast hunt, around the school grounds, with our parents or grandparents. We found some amazing bugs and managed to catch three bees, lots of wriggly worms and millipedes, different size spiders and some very fat slugs. We also found a chrysalis and have put it in a butterfly net in the classroom. Hopefully it will hatch out into a beautiful butterfly.

We made a graph to see which were the most common bugs in our playground and found it was spiders! Some children wrote what they found on their white boards during their phonic lesson.

Look at our photographs below to see what great fun we had.

Sycamore Step Back in Time

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee

This week (11/4/16) Reception have been learning all about our Queen and where she lives, as part of our whole school history week. We have written about and painted pictures of London landmarks, made split pin soldiers, learnt how to march like soldiers, learnt our National Anthem and decorated cakes in red, white and blue.

On Thursday 14th April Reception children and their parents/grandparents made crowns and flags to remember the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. We finish with a street party where tea and cakes were served. A great time was had by all. Look at the slide show below to see for yourself.

How to Look After Our Teeth

Tuesday 12th April

Today the school nurse came in to talk to the children about how we look after our teeth. They were delighted to see she had brought her "dog" with her who had a wonderful set of teeth. He showed the children how to brush their teeth properly.

It is important that we brush our teeth twice a day for 2 minutes each time and only eat sugary snacks as part of our meal times.

Chinese New Year

February 8th

This week, Reception children have been celebrating Chinese New Year. We have had fun making lanterns, fire-crackers and paper drums.  We have been challenged to make an  animal out of tangram pieces and  had a go at lion dancing. We finished off the week by sharing a Chinese meal in class.

Look at the slide show below showing some of the things we have been up to.

"Together Tuesday" 2nd February 2016

What a fantastic morning Sycamore class had making kites with their parents and grandparents. The weather was absolutely perfect for kit flying and everyone had lots of fun- not sure if the grown ups secretly had more fun than the children!
