Welcome to Year 1 with Maple Class

Hello and welcome to the Year 1 home page.

2019-20 Maple Class will be taught by myself, Miss Oxley along with our Teaching Assistants Mrs McGrath in the mornings and Mrs Clarke in the afternoons.

Year 1 is your child’s first step into the main body of the school as they enter Key Stage 1 and the National Curriculum. They will be taught to become more independent both socially and academically, so you will definitely notice a difference this year! We begin with a play-based approach to lessons but work towards more formal independent learning as the year progresses.  We try to make the transition as smooth as possible so that they don’t even realise it’s happening. We will also teach social skills and independence i.e. How to interact with others, people’s feelings and manners, changing themselves for PE, being responsible for their things.

Children need to bring in fresh, labelled water bottles every day.  Thirsty children do not work so well!

The class page will be updated with regular subject specific information so you are updated on what we are doing in class and how you can support your son/daughter's learning out of school too. I know the children will hope you enjoy looking at the photographs of their learning journey through Year 1.

If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to contact myself either through making an appointment at the school office or catch me after school.

We look forward to an exciting and fantastic year filled with lots fun opportunities to learn new things!
